Cause & effect

I’ll tell you a story behind the image, As a child, I went to a christian primary school and I have a memory of decorating an orange (around Christmas time), but with no knowledge to why we were using an orange? I mean I got the apple reference at that young age, I had been told of the forbidden fruit, but the orange had no relevance other than I liked eating them!

Fast forward some 30years on and I’m thinking of that orange, but now I think how do we get them so easily? all year round! how many orange trees are there? whos picking them and what conditions are they working in? and like I, do they think God is dead?

In a world where we are surrounded by beauty, why do the choices we collectively make cause so many humans to suffer? I mean I get my orange, I’m happy with it, its exactly what I want but something is changing, I’m changing, the world is changing, but am I by eating this non-native fruit contributing to the suffering, the rapid change of our environment is being caused by us, me consuming and not questioning, the decay of society can be seen in our current times we are suffocating and the flowers are decaying, what can I do to change reality? please, God help.

Inspired by Van Gogh’s painting; Sunflowers and the philosopher Socrates who once said;

“If you don’t get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don’t want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can’t hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is law and no amount of pretending will alter that reality.”
